At Westbourne House Nursing Home in Sheffield, a purpose-built facility that offers a range of specialised care including nursing, respite, and palliative services, we recently completed a comprehensive installation project. Situated conveniently near local amenities and the Northern General Hospital, Westbourne House is dedicated to providing a homely environment supported by modern facilities. Our mission was to enhance this environment by installing 114 rosewood-coloured UPVC casement windows and 16 bespoke composite doors.
Our primary challenge was to implement these enhancements in a fully operational nursing home without disturbing the peace and routine of its 71 residents. The project demanded solutions that would not only improve the facility’s security and energy efficiency but also contribute to its welcoming and safe atmosphere. We designed a plan to efficiently manage the installation of 114 UPVC casement windows and 16 composite doors, keeping in mind the specific needs of a healthcare setting. The new windows, featuring a warm rosewood finish, were selected for their high thermal retention and ease of maintenance—ideal for enhancing the residents’ comfort and reducing the home’s heating needs.
The door upgrades included French doors to aid in creating a more accessible and inviting communal space, and specialised fire escape doors equipped with panic bars to ensure safety in emergencies. This selection was aimed at boosting both the functionality and the aesthetic appeal of the nursing home.
